From trend to movement: where is material handling heading?

A few months ago, we wrote about the key trends shaping the shopfloor this year. What’s becoming increasingly clear since then is that these trends are no longer separate developments. They are accelerating. And more importantly, they are starting to reinforce each other.

What stands out even more is the pace at which this is happening. Developments we expected to evolve gradually at the start of the year are already moving into their next phase. Not in years, but in months. Conversations with customers have changed. Where there was once exploration, we now see more concrete decisions being considered.

That makes it worthwhile to take a fresh look at these trends. Not as individual developments, but as a movement slowly unfolding across the shopfloor. Because looking at trends in isolation often leads to delayed action. The real shift lies in how these developments come together and what that means for how you organise your operation.

As a result, expectations of suppliers are changing.

Where it once was enough to deliver equipment and provide maintenance, companies are now looking for partners who contribute to the bigger picture. Partners who help navigate complexity and make the right decisions.

This is a shift from transactional relationships to collaboration.

It is no longer just about delivering what is asked, but about helping define what is actually needed. Supporting decisions around automation, energy management and process optimisation.

Advice, insight and guidance are becoming part of the solution, not an add-on.
