Future moves

Practical innovation through step-by-step automation

Autonomous warehouses are on the rise, but automation must begin with small, smart steps. Prins is therefore testing technology that supports drivers. A great example of this process is the work we have done with forklift trucks equipped with obstacle detection systems that automatically adjust and assist with precise manoeuvring. These assistance systems increase both safety and productivity. We are also investigating semi-autonomous solutions for repetitive tasks, so that employees can focus on more complex work. By testing scalable innovations in practice, we are building, step-by-step, a future in which humans and machines work together optimally.

Our Future Moves make automation feasible, realistic, and delivering immediate value to our customers.

Robotisation and smart logistics: learning by doing

Robotisation is changing logistics, and Prins is moving forward with a targeted approach. Alongside our technology partners, we are developing pilots for autonomous transport solutions and robots that collect data for inventory management. These practical trials provide insight into goods flows, bottlenecks and where automation really adds value. By combining this research and testing with our expertise in material handling, we create solutions that can be applied immediately. In this way, Prins is taking the next significant step towards smart logistics: working smarter, safer, and more efficiently based on proven, effective technology. Together with our customers and partners, we are accelerating the evolution by experimenting, learning, and improving.

We call this: Knowledge Moves.

In 1958, a young Arie Prins decided to start working as an independent contractor. He began by using a milling machine for market gardeners in the Westland region. He soon expanded his services to include the repair, maintenance and sale of machines, which ultimately formed the basis for Prins, while the contracting business continued to grow.

Over the following years, Prins adapted to the changes in the Westland region and has continued to grow steadily. In the early 1970s, Arie Prins discovered a gap in the market for small rough-terrain forklift trucks, which marked the beginning of the forklift truck division.

When, at the end of the 1970s, there was a need for a reliable power source for the forklift trucks, Prins soon began collaborating with Kubota. As Prins quickly became Kubota’s largest customer in the Netherlands, the opportunity to become a Kubota importer arose.

In the 1990s, we said goodbye to the contracting business, after which the mechanisation division specialised in material handling equipment and the engine division focused on supplying Kubota engines to machine manufacturers at home and internationally.

With the establishment of Prins Forklifts UK in 2016 and the acquisition of Van Geel forklifts in 2021, Prins has certainly developed into a prominent player in both the forklift and diesel engine markets. From 2026 onwards, Prins will operate as a unified brand across all divisions.
